The Beauty that is: The Best Comeback Week of Football (26th-27th August 2023)

Nothing speaks louder than proving people wrong and doing the unthinkable.

The return of Football action in August has been phenomenal so far, as games all around the globe continue to deliver splendid matches with beautiful goals and storytelling along the way.
However, August gave us the potential match week of the month, which dates around the 26th to the 27th of the month, where we witnessed sensational comebacks in different leagues, wins that looked impossible but became possible as time went on.
Manchester United are widely regarded as the "Comeback Kings" of the game and they proved it in their match against Nottingham Forest, turning the match from a potential 0-2 loss to a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford.
Goals from Christian Erikson, Casemiro and a penalty goal by the MVP of the game, Bruno Fernandes did not just seal the comeback, but also kept their unbeaten run at home in the league going, extending it to 31.

Speaking of United, their rivals Liverpool had a remarkable turnaround too, but be it dramatic, as theirs came with a red card to their best defender, Virgil Van Dijk.
With a goal down against Newcastle and playing with just 10 men,  the Reds kept pushing, and eventually, substitute Darwin Nunez scored a double in the 81st and 93rd minute, winning the game for Liverpool.

Let's now shift our focus to Germany, home of the Bundesliga.
The league is known to register a lot of goals every week and it hasn't failed to disappoint.
One very entertaining match was the game between newly promoted FC Heidenheim and Hoffenheim.
The home side looked to be on course to register their victory against one of the Mainstays of the league, as they were leading 2-0 but Hoffenheim showed their vast experience with goals in the 77th, 80th and a deciding penalty in the 90th minute were able to grab their first win since their return.
In the same matchday, Wolfsburg came from behind to beat Koln 2-1, after a brace from Jonas Wind, taking his tally to 4 goals in 2 matches.

Switching gears to another league, this time in Spain, where La Liga resides.
There, we witnessed Athletic Bilbao overcome the odds against Real Betis, coming back from being 2-0 down to getting the victory with a remarkable scoreline of 4-2.
What makes this more special is the fact the comeback was completed in the first half. Shocking!!!!

Finally, we end this list with a potential Match of the Year candidate and Match of the Week, the barnburner which was Villarreal vs. Barcelona.

From start to finish, each side traded goals and comebacks, with Villarreal coming back from a goal down to overpower Barca with 3 goals to one before the 50th minute.
Unfortunately for Villarreal, La Masia proved to be the winning force as they came from 3-1 down to beat the Yellow Submarines with a 3-4 scoreline.

That will be all for today.
