World Cup| Germany fail for the second time as Japan secure top spot in Group E

Germany and Costa Rica crash out of the World Cup after failing to secure qualification.

Germany were banking on Spain to defeat Japan while they handle business with Costa Rica.

However, despite their 4-2 victory against Rica, they couldn't book a spot as Japan pulled up another shock.
Germany have now failed to secure qualification to the next round for the second time in a row, last coming in the 2018 edition.

Japan defied all odds to qualify for the Round of 16 after a superb 2-1 victory against Spain.

Goals from Ritsu Doan and Ao Tanaka were enough to turnaround Alvaro Morata's early goal, holding on to secure the top spot.

Despite the loss, Spain still move to the Round of 16, with their superior goal difference giving them the edge to surpass Germany, who finished with the same points (4).

Japan will take on Croatia while Spain will take on Morocco in the Round of 16.
