World Cup| Stats and Facts of Game 1


 Matchday 1 of the 2022 World Cup has been nothing but entertaining and fascinating as we got to see bigger teams get conquered by the smaller ones, debut goals, and history making.

 Here, we will be looking at some of the craziest and fun stats of Game 1:

* Argentina shock defeat to Saudi Arabia will go down in world cup history as one of the biggest upsets since the establishment of the  competition.
* Enner Valencia became the first Ecuadorian to score twice in a match since their history in the competition, doing so against Qatar in Group A.
 Yeah, Ecuador has never seen any of theit players score twice in a single game.
* Cristiano Ronaldo became the first man to score in 5 different World Cup tournaments.
He reached this milestone after scoring against Ghana in Group H.

* Speaking of Ghana, the black stars became the first African side to score a goal in the tournament.
 Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon all failed to register a goal in their opening games.
* The African sides, including Ghana, failed to win a game with Senegal loss to the Netherlands, Morocco's draw with Croatia, Cameroon and Ghana loss to Switzerland and Portugal respectively and Tunisia's draw with Denmark.
* If Thibaut Courtois didn't save Alphonso Davies penalty, the Bayern Munich man would have put his name in Canada's history book as the first man to score a goal in the tournament since it is their first time partaking in it.

* Germany were left bemused after Japan came back from 1-0 down to beat them 2-1.
* One thing Germany and Argentina have in common: Both scored a penalty first before their turnaround happened.
Talk about coincidence.
* Spain hammered Costa Rica with 7 goals with 6 different players but the player that stood out more than the rest was the upcoming star midfielder Gavi.
 It's safe to say that he has a bright future ahead of him.
The Youngster also became the second youngest goalscorer in the tournament (18), behind the great Pele (17).
* Richarlison brace against Serbia made him the first Brazilian since Neymar in 2014 to score twice on his World Cup debut.
* Robert Lewandowski still waits for his first goal in the world cup as he squandered a penalty against Mexico.
 Speaking of first goal, Cody Gakpo netted his first goal in the World cup, which was against Senegal.
This is also the first world cup he is participating in.

* Breel Embolo became the first player to score against his birth country in a World Cup.
The Swiss international scored the only goal against Cameroon, a goal which he didn't celebrate as a sign of respect.
