World Cup| Senegal secure a place in the knockout rounds after a 2-1 victory against Ecuador in Group A
Kalidou Koulibaly delivered the much needed goal for Senegal as they beat Ecuador 2-1 to qualify for the knockout rounds.
A lot were at stake coming into this net with Senegal chasing for a win in order to make it to the next round while their opponents needed either a win or a draw.
Ismaila Sarr set the pace for Senegal in the 44th minute after he cooly dispatched a penalty that he won to the bottom corner.
After the break, Moise Caicedo drew Ecuador level via a corner kick set up in the 67th minute.
Time wasn't enough for Ecuador to savour their moment as Senegal took the lead once again just 3 minutes later, scored by their Captain Kalidou Koulibaly.
Ecuador couldn't clear Idrissa Gueye's cross into the box and the Chelsea defender pounced with a well timed volley to the top corner.
At the end of the day, it was the African side that prevailed and they secured that qualification spot in Group A with 6 points, a point lesser than the Netherlands, who defeated Qatar comfortably with 2 goals.
This was also the first time an African side made it out of the group stage since the 2014 edition.
