La Liga| Why was Alex Baena sent off after equalising for Villarreal?

A controversial red card was shown to Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena after he was deemed to have "taken off" his shirt after his goal against Almeria.

This incident took place after Alex equalised for the Yellow Submarines from a resulting corner in the 56th minute, rising higher than everyone to nod the ball past Pacheco.

Alex then pulled his shirt as high as his head, just enough for him to show the writings on his inner clothes, paying respect to the vice president of Villarreal.

However, he was shown a yellow card for the act, and having received a card in the first half, he was sent off.

This decision sparked an argument between the referee and the Villarreal bench but nevertheless, the card stood.

We all know that shirt removal during play is deemed as a bookable offense but a shirt that isn't completely remove, now that is a debatable topic.

Unless it has been put in the law, which I think isn't implemented, that call from the referee was incorrect.

Do you think the referee's decision to send Baena off was correct or did he make a mistake?

In a show of passion and dedication, the Yellow Submarines didn't drop their shoulders as they went on to grab a last minute goal through Nicolas Jackson, completing the turnaround.
